DEMOGRAPHICS AND STAFF
West Terrace Primary School serves approximately 600 students
from age 4 to 11 in a suburban district in St. James, Barbados. The school’s catchment
area is unique serving students from low income, middle income and upper-middle
income brackets. Approximately 40% of our student population takes part in the School
Meals feeding programme.
The teaching staff is led by the principal and three
Senior Teachers. WTPS has an Early Childhood Education Coordinator, a Language
Arts Coordinator, a Mathematics and Science Coordinator and an Information
Technology Coordinator. WTPS has a
teaching staff of 40 teachers who teach according to curriculum outlined by the
Ministry of Education Technological and Vocational Training. Three teachers on
staff are assigned to teach Digital Literacy as a part of the curriculum.
There is also an ancillary staff which is comprised of five janitors, one general worker, 6 school monitors and 6 school meals servers. There
is also a guard and school traffic
warden attached to the school. A part- time clerk typist attends to the administrative
needs of the school.
INFRASTRUCTURE
The campus comprises of two blocks and a prefab building which house twenty-eight classes. There
is an administrative block which consists of a foyer and reception area, the
principal’s office, storeroom, sickbay and staffroom. There are three nutrition
rooms and quarters for the ancillary staff. There is one computer lab which can
accommodate thirty students. In addition, there is a “portable computer lab” called
Profuturo which is equipped with intranet, a projector, screen, a teacher laptop and devices for twenty-four students.
